Infrastructure

Hertfordshire LEP plays a key role in supporting the development of Hertfordshire's new and existing settlements and championing novel ways to sustainably accelerate housing delivery via offsite manufacturing.

We are working with local partners to drive forward the regeneration of our New Towns by identifying the critical interventions needed to unlock growth. In Stevenage and Hatfield, frameworks are in place that set out the vision and delivery of ambitious regeneration plans for the town centres.

Substantial progress has been made in the regeneration of Watford, Hemel Hempstead and South Oxhey, and LEP funding has contributed to key improvements at Hertford and Waltham Cross. A major regeneration scheme is also underway in Bishop's Stortford. 

We are ambitious for our New Towns, original Garden Cities, the planned Garden Town at Harlow and Gilston, and Hemel Garden Community which is creating 12,000 new homes and 10,000 new jobs to the east and north of Hemel Hempstead

We will continue to work with our local authority partners to help balance the need for housing delivery with the provision of adequate employment land. The development of the Herts IQ enterprise zone in west Hertfordshire will also drive new forms of economic growth.

We are supporting a raft of transport measures across the county to make it easier to get to and from places of work and leisure and support the shift to a low carbon economy.

We are encouraging smarter forms of connectivity to reduce congestion through sustainable transport measures and green travel corridors. We are also supporting the roll-out of superfast broadband via the Connected Counties programme.

We reach out across our borders to work with neighbouring LEPs and other organisations in relation to key national infrastructure projects that have the potential to have a real economic impact on the county.

More locally, we work closely with Hertfordshire County Council as the Strategic Transport Authority. Transport scheme recommendations and decisions are made through the Hertfordshire Local Transport Body.
